Future Trends
ELECTRIC CARS
In the future we will be seeing more and more electric cars. It already exists for a long time, but has never been a trend. I believe this will change quickly. An electric car is a car that works on one electric motor or more. The energy used is stored in batteries or another energy storage device. The first electric cars appeared in the 1880s, but during World War 2 the technology stagnated. The global economic recession in the late 2000s led to the abandonment of fuel-inefficient SUVs. These were seen as a symbol of the excess that caused the recession. More people were in favor of small cars, hybrid cars and electric cars. (Wikipedia)
(Del-Air Electrical, 2014)
An electric car offers energy efficient and more environment friendly alternative to gasoline engines. The reason they have been slowly accepted due
to misconceptions such as it being too expensive, or difficulties with charging and doubts if it would give enough power to travel as much as certain people
do. (Del-Air Electrical, 2014) In my opinion the electric car is and will become more popular. When walking down the street you will be able to see more chargers everywhere. The electric car is a micro-trend and should therefore be on top of the trend pyramid. The next question will be what the needs behind buying these cars are. The target audience of this trend consist of the public sector, green companies and multi-car households. (Sons, 2001) When looking at needs we use the Maslow's pyramid.
(Factoryjoe, 2009)
Before being able to categorize the electric car it is necessary to know that people are more and more worrying about the well-being of the planet. When
we travel by cars that work on fuel we are actually also polluting the environment and mainly the ozone layer. Therefore, I would argue that this is
one of the reasons that people turn from gasoline cars to electric cars. Going back to Maslow's pyramid it is most plausible that the self-actualization
needs lay behind buying electric cars. Morality and problem solving lay at the core of this new phenomenon. At the bottom of the pyramid we will state technological development. Since, it would not be possible to create electric cars without the advanced technology of today.
